 | 1989The Inauguration of The Hong Kong Article Numbering Association Founding of Hong Kong Article Numbering Association (HKANA) under the auspices of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. Former Chief Secretary, Sir David Ford officiated the inception of the Association. |

 | 1990Introduction of the Association's Barcode Service HKANA's Barcode Service was created with the aim of ensuring that all printed barcodes could be reliably scanned first time, every time. An aggressive public promotional campaign was organized introducing the fact that the global EAN•UCC numbering system is today the choice for Hong Kong varies industries. |

 | 1991Introduction of the Code of Practice for Scanning in Retail Stores
The Code of Practice meant to provide protection for consumers against pricing ambiguity by offering guidance on the use of scanning at retail points of sale. Early adopters included 7-Eleven, Mannings, Park'N Shop, Wellcome, Wing On Department Store, Circle K and China Resources Purchasing. |

 | 1992Collaboration of Retail Industry EDI Committee and Initiation of the EDI pilot The EDI Steering Committee initiated EDI pilot with participation from Wellcome, Park’N Shop, A.W Watson, Swire Bottles, Nestle Dairy Farm and Circle K to conduct live tests on the exchange of electronic purchase orders and invoices through EDI. |

 | 1993Establishment of the General Merchandising Barcoding Committee & Signing up of the 1000th member
The committee aimed to promote the use of "source marking" on general merchandise. In celebrating Li & Fung as the HKANA 1000th member, a commemorative ceremony was also held. |

 | 1994Launch of the HKANA's reference library
The library has set up at the Association's premise, has grown to house a comprehensive array of reference items such as trade journals, publications, manuals and multi-media information with international standards and specifications, barcode printing and technology, industry and EDI/JIT applications. |

 | 1995Launch of the EZ*TRADE Service & Formation of the Supply Chain Management Advisory Board
HK$3 million sponsorship was received from the HKSAR for the development of an EDI electronic trading software application targeting SMEs, comprehensive training programme was provided to them to enhance their industry competitiveness. Under the auspices of HKANA, the Supply Chain Management Advisory Board was formed as a permanent forum in the consumer goods sector to put SCM into practice. The industry forum became a founding member of ECR Asia in 1999. Until early 2002, it was renamed as Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Hong Kong. |

Inception of the Supply Chain Management Resource Centre Officiated by the former Secretary for the Information Technology and Broadcasting Mr K C Kwong, the SCM Resource Centre was formed which consists of a library and an array of the latest supply chain management information services. |

 | 2002Launch of the E-Business Start-up Kit - “ecec” The kit includes 3 vital services: e-ID Repository (web-based database), EZ*TRADE (B2B communication platform) and EZ*SHOPS (promotional website).
Standardisation of Identification Coding, Classification and Attributes of Raw Materials for Upstream Apparel and Textiles Industry, and the SME Ambassador Program. Sponsored by the government funding, the AppTeXpress project was designated to reinforce Hong Kong's position as a global sourcing center for the apparel and textiles industry while the SME Ambassador Program aimed at establishing SME retailers and wholesalers' modern supply chain capabilities. |

 | 2004New Office Reception Ceremony The HKANA relocated to a new office in Wanchai in October. The new office features a spacious and multi-purpose Resource Center to offer versatile support services to members. |

 | 2004The Launch of SCOR Supply-Chain Council – Greater China Chapter Formed in November, the Council ushered in the Supply-Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model, a best-known set of guidelines with common process framework for leading enterprises in Greater China. |

 | 2004HKANA's 15th Anniversary Gala Dinner To celebrate for the HKANA's 15th anniversary, the Gala Dinner was held with over 300 members attended. The Chinese face-changing performance coupled with beautiful songs performed by Louie Castro were fascinating. Under the grand lucky draw as highlights, the program turned to an end with great success. |

 | 2005 HKANA was renamed GS1 Hong Kong Hong Kong Article Numbering Association was officially renamed GS1 Hong Kong on 12 April in the press conference. Rebranding was part of a worldwide initiative to bring together over a hundred EAN and UCC member organizations in one cohesive body "GS1" which suggests Global System, Global Standards and Global Solution. The name change empowered GS1 Hong Kong with stronger connections to provide a global platform and in a better position to promulgate worldwide supply chain standards and spearhead next-generation services and technologies. |

 | 2005The 8th ECR Asia Conference 2005 The 4-day conference attracted over 80 prominent speakers addressing the theme, “Adding Magic to the Supply Chain”, was a great success on every front. Over 850 international delegates from 17 countries attended the conference. It has achieved its aim of being a regional forum for the exchange of valuable information and real-world experience on how business efficiency can be optimized by the effective deployment of enabling technologies and best practices in supply chain management. |

 | 2006EPCglobal Hong Kong launched Industry Support Program EPCglobal Hong Kong launched an industry program - EPCglobal Industry Support Program (EISP) on April 28. EISP offers financial, technological and implementation support for EPC adoption to enterprises operating across Hong Kong and Southern China. Suppliers and manufacturers in the Pan Pearl River Delta (PPRD) will be offered subsidies amounting to at least 45 percent of standard implementation costs. Total savings for enterprises in the PPRD may be more than HK$26 million. The EISP is sponsored by the industry's leading EPC/RFID solution providers including Adtio, Autotoll, Cisco, Datacraft, Intel, Schmidt and Tyco ADT. |

 | 2006The 6th Supply Chain Management CEO Summit Organized by GS1 Hong Kong, and co-organized by the ECR Hong Kong and Supply-Chain Council-Greater China, the 6th Annual Supply Chain Management CEO Summit was held at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on October 11-12, 2006. The theme this year for the two-day industry-landmark event was “Time for Supply Chain Integration.” Over 30 local and international supply chain experts across multiple sectors - including retail, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, apparel, consultancy and information technology - shared their experiences and cases at the Summit. Reflecting the event's popularity in the industry, over 300 CEOs, decision-makers, senior executives and managers were in attendance at the Summit and 24 industry-supporting organizations provided support. |

 | 2006GS1 Hong Kong and Intel Launched PRD Alive! GS1 Hong Kong and Intel Corporation announced the PRD Alive! on 11 October. The collaborative initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and maximize value of supply chain technologies for the small-to-medium business (SMBs) based in the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) region, helping them stay competitive in the global marketplace through the adoption of new identification technologies EPC/RFID. A number of leading companies participated in the Program as early adopters of EPC/RFID technology and IT modernization; they are Acotex Far East, BAX Global, DHL, EXEL Supply Chain, Fat Kee Stevedores, Kerry Logistics, Laws Group, MGB Metro Group, Philip Electronics and Winco Paper. |

 | 2007Opening of the Supply Chain Innovation Centre GS1 Hong Kong and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) collaborated to establish the Supply Chain Innovation Centre (SCIC) on 1 February 2007. Located at the Hong Kong Science Park in Shatin and occupying an area of over 3,000 square feet, the SCIC is Asia's most comprehensive supply chain enabling technology centre for showcasing Electronic Product CodeTM / Radio Frequency Identification (EPC/RFID) integrated solutions for the manufacturing, logistics and retail sectors, helping enterprises in Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta region to experience the value of supply chain standardization, technology and infrastructural development that add to their operations in enhancing supply-chain visibility. |

 | 2007Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Industry Cooperation Memorandum Signing Ceremony GS1 Hong Kong signed the Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Industry Cooperation Memorandum with the Foshan Chancheng Investment Service and Promotion Center under the Chancheng People's Government of Foshan City, Guangdong on 17 June 2007. The cooperation ushers a new juncture in accelerating the adoption of RFID technology between Guangdong and Hong Kong, making the Chancheng district in Foshan among the most important RFID industry bases in China. |

 | 2007The First Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Hong Kong Awards 2007 Co-organized by GS1 Hong Kong and ECR Hong Kong, the ECR Hong Kong Awards 2007 is the Hong Kong's first ECR Awards to recognize local companies' outstanding performance who have successfully implemented SCM/ECR principles and strategies. Mr. Stephen Mak, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Operation) of HKSAR and Mr. Keith Bartlett, Chairman of ECR Hong Kong were invited to present the Awards to the winning companies at the SCM Excellence Conference on October 12. The Awards aimed at promoting ECR initiative as the best business operational standard and fostering the adoption of ECR best practices in Hong Kong. |

 | 2008The Launch of ezTRACK
ezTRACK, a EPC/RFID standards-based globalized track and track platform, was officially launched on 6 June 2008. The new community-wide service is designed to provide a reliable track-and-trace platform that enables real-time visibility of goods and product information anywhere, anytime. ezTRACK is open to businesses in Hong Kong and the PRD region who are aspired to sharpen their supply chain competitive “edge” to gain “first-mover advantage” in the global market. |

 | 2008The Launch of Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) The Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) co-hosted by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) and GS1 Hong Kong, was officially launched on 9 October 2008 at the Hong Kong Science Park. As an extension of Supply Chain Innovation Centre set up in February 2007, the Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) is divided into three thematic zones namely Consumer, Manufacturing, Logistics zones with new theme "RFID Making Lives Better". The displays and demonstrations showcasing the applications and versatility of RFID technology have contributed to improving modern lifestyles, enhancing the business environment and uplifting the quality of people's lives. |

 | 2008The First Hong Kong RFID Awards The inaugural Hong Kong RFID Awards presentation ceremony was presented at the GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Management Excellence Summit 2008 on 10 Oct 2008 which marked a new milestone for GS1 Hong Kong's efforts in driving a wide adoption of RFID technology. The Awards scheme is divided into three categories: the Best EPC/RFID Implementation, the Most Innovative Use of EPC/RFID and the Most Innovative EPC/RFID Products with three tiers of prizes including Gold, Silver and Bronze. Award winners shared their winning success cases, strategies, as well as experiences in the innovation, deployment and application of the technology. |

.JPG) | 2009The 9th GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Management (SCM) Excellence Summit 2009 and GS1 Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner The Summit on November 10, 2009 successfully attracted 38 prominent speakers addressing the theme "Managing in a Challenging Economy", and concluded with a success on every front. The momentous occasion also had a record-breaking attendance of over 530 local and international delegates comprising leading players from a wide spectrum of the business community spanning manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, logistics service providers, public organizations and government bureaus. As one of the anchor events of GS1 Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Celebration Program, our Celebration Dinner held in the evening was filled with fun and entertainment, gathered over 510 delegates from 18 nations. The Summit and Dinner achieved its goal of providing a unique forum for the exchange of valuable, real-world experience on supply chain management and best practices, as well as offering a rare opportunity for industry peers and members to network in a relaxing environment.
