GS1 Hong Kong organizes different annual conferences, seminars and networking functions inviting renowned companies from local, regional or global as our guests to share their state-of-the-art technologies and value chain best practices in their business arena. This is a good opportunity and collaboration for our members and non-members to participate.

2009 November

The 9th GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Management (SCM) Excellence Summit 2009 and GS1 Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
The Summit on November 10, 2009 successfully attracted 38 prominent speakers addressing the theme "Managing in a Challenging Economy", and concluded with a success on every front. The momentous occasion also had a record-breaking attendance of over 530 local and international delegates comprising leading players from a wide spectrum of the business community spanning manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, logistics service providers, public organizations and government bureaus. As one of the anchor events of GS1 Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Celebration Program, our Celebration Dinner held in the evening was filled with fun and entertainment, gathered over 510 delegates from 18 nations. The Summit and Dinner achieved its goal of providing a unique forum for the exchange of valuable, real-world experience on supply chain management and best practices, as well as offering a rare opportunity for industry peers and members to network in a relaxing environment.

2009 October

The 15th Global GS1 Healthcare Conference
Organized by GS1 Healthcare and co-hosted by GS1 Hong Kong, the Food and Health Bureau of the HKSAR Government as well as Hospital Authority, the 15th Global GS1 Healthcare Conference concluded with a success in achieving its objective of promoting global collaboration in building a harmonized global healthcare supply chain. With the theme “Raising the Bar on Patient Safety and Supply Chain Efficiency”, the three-day Conference gathered over 20 prominent international speakers to address key topics critical to healthcare quality and patient safety including regulatory and industry developments on healthcare supply chain, automatic identification, traceability and electronic product catalogues. The Conference was well-attended by over 300 delegates from 29 countries around the world. Local participants included representatives from the Department of Health, Food and Health Bureau, OGCIO, Hospital Authority, private hospitals, industry associations of medical devices and pharmaceutical products suppliers, vendors and academia. A networking welcome dinner and post-conference tour to hospital, distribution centres and Hong Kong RFID Centre were also arranged.

2009 June

Launch of Product Authentication Solution to Protect Consumers
GS1 Hong Kong has launched a product authentication solution designed to help consumers ensure the products they purchase are genuine and protect the integrity of brands in the market. The program, which is funded by the HKSAR Government, coupled with the support of a retailer and three popular brand owners, will offer the public an efficient way to authenticate products through the internet or via SMS. The four companies supporting the pilot program include Nuance-Watson (HK) Limited, Comvita HK Limited, First Edible Nest and Po Sum On Medicine Factory Limited.

GS1 Hong Kong Celebrates 20th Anniversary
On May 6, GS1 Hong Kong marked a significant milestone to kick-off its 20th anniversary celebration for this year. A packed program has planned to launch throughout the year targeting a wide range of stakeholders and industries to serving their diverse supply chain needs. With unwavering commitment towards supply chain excellence, GS1 Hong Kong believes efficiency, transparency and connectivity are keys to future supply chain excellence. GS1 Hong Kong will continue to make progress in further driving the adoption of global supply chain standards, technology and best practices.

MOU Signing Ceremony for Hong Kong's First Product Quality Information Portal - BarcodePlus
A MOU signing ceremony for “BarcodePlus”, a one-stop product quality information portal in collaboration with four major product testing and certification bodies in Hong Kong; namely CMA Testing, Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre and SGS Hong Kong, was officiated by GS1 Hong Kong on 11 March, 2009. The MOU signing underscored a major milestone in the development of the product-quality information portal between GS1 Hong Kong and the four partners. Acting as “a window to product quality and safety”, BarcodePlus aims to enhance product traceability along supply chains and uplift public awareness on product quality and safety. By entering GS1 barcode numbers through the portal, consumers and businesses can easily access to critical product quality-related information and testing reports online.

Asia's first RFID/EPC Live Test Program in Global Logistics
Asia's first RFID/EPC Live Test Program in Global Logistics initiated by GS1 Hong Kong, co-organized by Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), endorsed by EPCglobal Transportation & Logistics Industry Action Group as well as sponsored by some industry service providers and professional bodies, was successfully held on February 26 to 27, 2009 at the Hong Kong Science Park. The two-day information-packed event encompassed live test cases, solution exhibitions, forums and site visits to the Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC), successfully attracting 270 key stakeholders from the industry. Through information exchange and live demonstrations, the event aimed to infuse necessary knowledge, tools and skills required to transportation and logistics businesses as well as demonstrate the business values of RFID technology to achieve efficiency, transparency and security along the global supply chain.

Annual Member Dinner 2008
The Annual Members Dinner 2008 held at Sheraton Hotel on 11 December was a great success at every forefront. We had a record-breaking attendance of over 350 members across industries and guests from government bodies, industry associations, academia, and solution providers etc. Themed “Beyond GS1 Keys - Supply Chain Intelligence” for this year, the fun-filled dinner was unveiled by a number of infotainment programmes including more than 10 theme booths showcasing company's products to participants, the interactive fun game, industry sharing by members on GS1 Keys applications and services, as well as fabulous table prizes and grand lucky draw. The singing performance by famous artist Ms Sara Li had brought the atmosphere to high-tide. It was an exceptional night for our members and business partners filled with great happiness and fun in a relaxing and cozy environment.

The First Hong Kong RFID Awards
The inaugural Hong Kong RFID Awards presentation ceremony was presented at the GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Management Excellence Summit 2008 on 10 Oct 2008 which marked a new milestone for GS1 Hong Kong's efforts in driving a wide adoption of RFID technology. The Awards scheme is divided into three categories: the Best EPC/RFID Implementation, the Most Innovative Use of EPC/RFID and the Most Innovative EPC/RFID Products with three tiers of prizes including Gold, Silver and Bronze. Award winners shared their winning success cases, strategies, as well as experiences in the innovation, deployment and application of the technology.

The 8th GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Management Excellence Summit
Entering the 8th year, GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Management Excellence Summit 2008 took place at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on 10 October. Mr Duncan Pescod, JP, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications & Technology) of HKSAR Government was invited to deliver the opening remark. Addressing the theme "Achieving Business Sustainability", the summit was well-attended by over 500 local and international delegates of which some 70 came from enterprises in PRD Region looking to enhance competitiveness with supply chain excellence.

The Launch of Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) Opening Ceremony
The Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) co-hosted by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) and GS1 Hong Kong, was officially launched on 9 October 2008 at the Hong Kong Science Park attracting over 150 delegates to attend. As an extension of Supply Chain Innovation Centre set up in February 2007, the Hong Kong RFID Centre (SCIC) is divided into three thematic zones namely Consumer, Manufacturing, Logistics zones with new theme "RFID Making Lives Better". The displays and demonstrations showcasing the applications and versatility of RFID technology have contributed to improving modern lifestyles, enhancing the business environment and uplifting the quality of people's lives.

GS1 Hong Kong and VICS Co-organized CMSS Roundtable
GS1 Hong Kong joined hands with the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions Association (VICS) to host the Collaborative Material Standard Specifications (CMSS) Roundtable on 19 June 2008. VICS - which comprises hundreds of leading general merchandise suppliers and buyers in the US – now plans to leverage the results achieved by the HKSAR Government-funded project “Apparel & Textiles Express (AppTeXpress)", to further enhance supply chain management in the global apparel and textiles industry with a new project called Collaborative Material Standard Specifications (CMSS). The CMSS roundtable was well-attended by over 30 key stakeholders from the apparel and textiles community from the US and Asia to discuss the move-forward plan for AppTex.

The Launch of ezTRACK cum EPCnetwork Project Completion Ceremony
The Ceremony was held on 6 June 2008 with over 180 local and international delegates attended. Mr. Chan Yuk Tak, Eddy, JP, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, was invited as officiating guest at the ceremony to deliver the words of appreciation for the successful completion of the EPCnetwork project “Establishing an Electronic Product Code (EPC) Network Infrastructure to Enable End-to-end Supply Chain Visibility”, as well as to present mementos to EPCnetwork project team. Following the Project Completion Ceremony, Mr. Chan, senior executives of GS1 Hong Kong, Autotoll Limited, representatives from Economy and Trade Bureau of Chancheng District Foshan and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. joined together to officiate the launch of ezTRACK ceremony. ezTRACK service showcase demonstrations were arranged after the event. ezTRACK, a globalized track and trace community platform service based on EPC/RFID standards, is designed to help enterprises in Hong Kong and PRD region time-to-market, enhance customer satisfaction and connect to the global marketplace.

GS1 Hong Kong Healthcare Night
The GS1 Hong Kong Healthcare Night, an excellent networking event exclusively for the healthcare industry community, was held on 23 May. The event was regarded as a great success as positive feedback was received and brought together over 40 leading local and overseas healthcare industry professionals comprising government bureaus, public organizations, manufacturers, retailers and service providers. Participants were inspired by the insightful speech delivered by Ms Sandra Lee, Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health) of HKSAR Government on "The Vision of Hong Kong's Healthcare Reforms" and the presentation on the global healthcare development shared by GS1 Global Office.

The Annual Members Dinner 2007
The Annual Members Dinner 2007, drawn by 300 members, business partners and guests, was successfully held on December 7, 2007 at Renaissance Harbour View Hotel. Themed “GS1 Keys–The Key to Winning in a Global Marketplace” for the year, invaluable tips were shared to the participants to broaden their scope of business opportunities, including the applications of GS1 Keys, SME Ambassador Program 2007, ECR Hong Kong Awards 2007 and ground-breaking EPC/RFID projects. The singing performance by famous artist Ms Nancy Wu and grand lucky draw brought that night filled with friendly, relax and joyful atmosphere.

The First Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Hong Kong Awards 2007
Co-organized by GS1 Hong Kong and ECR Hong Kong, the ECR Hong Kong Awards 2007 is the Hong Kong's first ECR Awards to recognize local companies' outstanding performance who have successfully implementated SCM/ECR principles and strategies. Mr. Stephen Mak, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Operation) of HKSAR and Mr. Keith Bartlett, Chairman of ECR Hong Kong were invited to present the Awards to the winning companies at the SCM Excellence Conference on October 12. The Awards aimed at promoting ECR initiative as the best business operational standard and fostering the adoption of ECR best practices in Hong Kong.

The Supply Chain Management Excellence Conference 2007
The emerging consensus of standards in global supply chain results in the convergence of the two former SCM and RFID events were taken place at the GS1 Hong Kong SCM Excellence Conference 2007 on October 12, with a timely theme of “Maximizing Supply Chain Management and EPC/RFID Power”. With the support of 11 sponsors and 26 industry organizations, the Conference gathered over 30 prominent global SCM experts, 500 local and international delegates in attendence. It was set to be a one-stop platform for supply chain leaders and RFID gurus across industries to assemble and share views in this Hong Kong's landmark event.

2007 October

EPCglobal Joint Action Group (JAG) Meeting
The first Asia's EPCglobal Joint Action Group (JAG) meeting was held in Hong Kong from October 8-11 2007 to discuss among others, the adoption of EPCglobal standards development that will impact key industry sectors including retail supply chain; consumer electronics; apparel, fashion & footwear; media/entertainment, transportation and logistics; and aerospace and defense. The participants of JAG gained invaluable opportunity to network and shared views with the RFID experts of the focused work groups from around the world.

2007 June

Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Industry Cooperation Memorandum Signing Ceremony
GS1 Hong Kong signed the Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Industry Cooperation Memorandum with the Foshan Chancheng Investment Service and Promotion Center under the Chancheng People's Government of Foshan City, Guangdong on 17 June 2007. The cooperation ushers a new juncture in accelerating the adoption of RFID technology between Guangdong and Hong Kong, making the Chancheng district in Foshan among the most important RFID industry bases in China.

Opening of the Supply Chain Innovation Centre and EPC/RFID Industry Implementation Forum
Collaborated between GS1 Hong Kong and Hong Kong Science Park (HKSTP), the Supply Chain Innovation Centre was established on 1 February. The centre showcases EPC/RFID integrated solutions for the manufacturing, logistics and retail sector, helping enterprises in Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta region to experience the value of supply chain standardization, technology and infrastructural development that add to their operations. Over 300 local and international business delegates comprising leading manufacturers, logistics providers, technology companies and retailers attended the Opening Ceremony and afternoon session EPC/RFID Industry Implementation Forum. Valuable insights delivered from leading industry players through pilot cases sharing to explain the adoption of EPC/RFID in their business operaton was well received by audience.

The Annual Members Gathering 2006
About 300 members and business partners attended this annual event. The theme for this year was "Innovation for Supply Chain Efficiency and Visibility", it highlights GS1 Hong Kong new services and five successful SMEs case studies under the counselling of "SME Ambassador Program - Inventory Management". The gathering also provided an opportunity to relax and socialize in a friendly atmosphere, with dinner and entertainment.

2006 October

The 6th Supply Chain Management CEO Summit
Organized by GS1 Hong Kong, and co-organized by the ECR Hong Kong and Supply-Chain Council-Greater China, the 6th Annual Supply Chain Management CEO Summit was held at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on October 11-12, 2006. The theme this year for the two-day industry-landmark event was “Time for Supply Chain Integration.” Over 30 local and international supply chain experts across multiple sectors - including retail, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, apparel, consultancy and information technology - shared their experiences and cases at the Summit. Reflecting the event's popularity in the industry, over 300 CEOs, decision-makers, senior executives and managers were in attendance at the Summit and 24 industry-supporting organizations provided support.

The 3rd EPCglobal Hong Kong RFID Conference 2006
The Conference in April, 28 addressing the theme “The Mission in Action and Beyond” was regarded as a great success on every front. We were privileged to have the Honorable Mr. Joseph W P Wong, GBS, JP, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government to give us an opening address. 600 local and international delegates comprising leading players from a wide spectrum of the business community, spanning manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, logistics service providers, public organizations and government bureaux. Other special guests in attendance include 21 distinguished speakers who are among the pioneers in EPC/RFID adoption around the world.

Annual Member Dinner 2005
It was a glamorous night filled with happiness, joy and fun with over 300 members and business partners participated. With this year theme “New Face of GS1 Hong Kong”, it appropriately reflected our new values and services in the sharing session of the re-launch of SME Ambassador Program and the introduction of innovative EPC/RFID future shop concept to entrepreneurs in optimizing their supply chain excellence. The wine tasting, booth displays, lucky draw and charity bazzar conjured up much excitment and created the perfect party atmosphere. The evening entertainment included guest singers, Ms. Joyce Lee and Mr. Orlando Tao, and the rendition of Top of the World”by GS1 Hong Kong's board of directors brought to the highlight of the night.

The 8th ECR Asia Conference 2005
The 4-day conference attracted over 80 prominent speakers addressing the theme, “Adding Magic to the Supply Chain”, was a great success on every front. Over 800 international delegates from 17 countries attended the conference. It has achieved its aim of being a regional forum for the exchange of valuable information and real-world experience on how business efficiency can be optimized by effective deployment of enabling technologies and best practices in supply chain management.

International ICT Expo 2005
Organized by GS1 Hong Kong, EPCglobal Hong Kong and Trade and Industry Department in co-organizing with Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Expo was held on 14-17 April highlighting the information and communications technology and provided SME solutions and case studies on Retail and Supply Chain.

2005 April

EPCglobal HK RFID Conference
This one day conference offered comprehensive coverage of EPC/RFID deployments through three interdependent tracks: Business (namely retail and manufacturing sectors), Technology (namely technical support industries) and Logistics. The Commissioner for Innovation & Technology, Mr. WONG Sik Kei, Anthony, JP, was invited to be the event's officiating guest while Wal-Mart was also invited to talk about their practical experience on EPC/RFID. The conference had attracted over 500 participants from all over the world.

2005 April

HKANA was renamed GS1 Hong Kong
Hong Kong Article Numbering Association was officially renamed GS1 Hong Kong on 12 April in the press conference. Rebranding was part of a worldwide initiative to bring together over a hundred EAN and UCC member organizations in one cohesive body "GS1" which suggests Global System, Global Standards and Global Solution. The name change empowered GS1 Hong Kong with stronger connections to provide a global platform and in a better position to promulgate worldwide supply chain standards and spearhead next-generation services and technologies.

2004 December

HKANA's 15th Anniversary Gala Dinner
To celebrate for the HKANA's 15th anniversary, the Gala Dinner was held with over 300 members attended. The Chinese face-changing performance coupled with beautiful songs performed by Louie Castro were fascinating. Under the grand lucky draw as highlights, the program turned to an end with great success.

2004 November

The 4th Annual SCM CEO Summit
The 2-days event received around 300 attendants participated in the CEO Summit. Distinguished industry leaders from Luen Thai, Esquel, Gillette, Mannings, CRC Vanyuard, Sims Trading, Excel and iDS Logistics, Cisco, Philips, Samsung, IBM, Intel, ASWatson, Wellcome, P&G, Walt Disney, etc were invited to share their latest supply chain management development.

2004 October

New Office Reception Ceremony
The HKANA relocated to a new office in Wanchai in October. The new office features a spacious and multi-purpose Resource Center to offer versatile support services to members. The Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour of HKSAR, Ms Sandra Lee, also attended and officiated the ceremony.
