Background
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) with Electronic Product Code (EPC)
is a new technology for automatic identification and data capture and is complementary to traditional barcode scanning.  EPCglobal Hong Kong, the local representative body of EPCglobal Inc., was formed in March 2004 under the auspices of GS1 Hong Kong to monitor the development of this technology.  In the same year, EPC Partners Advisory Board was set up to gather a group of enthusiastic technology users and solution providers who are committed to drive the technology adoption in Hong Kong.

Mission
The board is to champion EPC development in local industries through the promotion of EPC concept and adoption of related standards. 

Interest Area
The board is interested in matters related to the development and adoption of RFID/EPC in trade with the core focus on the EPC Network™ and standards development. 

Board Structure
The board is currently composed of more than 25 board members from various business natures.  Board meetings are held regularly to share views and latest development in RFID/EPC. Under the auspices of the board, 5 workgroups are formed.  Task forces are set up to carry out on-going activities related to EPC adoption, market awareness, standards development, government policy and special projects.  These workgroups and task forces meet as needed.

Strategies

1. Maintain a forum to create market awareness in both EPC standards and solutions;
2. Keep track of the development of EPC standards and its adoption;
3. Support solution partners to adopt EPC standards;
4. Influence the global EPC standards development and contribute to the global standards development;
5. Identify and organize marketing opportunities across industries to raise public awareness;
6. Create and promote EPC implementation cases across industries;
7. Suggest training needs and assist in organizing industry training;
8. Lobby the government to promote the awareness and implementation of EPC as well as regulatory policies and to support EPC/RFID adoption;
9. Advise on the direction of EPCglobal Hong Kong's roadmap to facilitate business implementation of EPC/RFID in Hong Kong and PRD; and
10. Develop strategic alliances with China in standards development, training, marketing and business implementation.
