Supply-Chain Council - Greater China Board

Background
Radical changes in global trade are transforming business practices in Greater China.  Introduction of supply chain management (SCM) concept and tools will further strengthen the competitive advantages of the companies there.  With GS1 Hong Kong's assistance, the Greater China Chapter of Supply-Chain Council was set up in 2004 to introduce the process-modeling concept with Supply-Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR), raise the awareness of SCOR in the region and offer an official channel to support companies in using SCOR.

Mission
The board is to help organizations in the Greater China region to enhance their supply chain performance through the adoption of SCOR, thus leading to world-class SCM.

Interest Area
The board works around a process reference model called SCOR, which encompasses a set of process building blocks, their definitions, performance metrics and best practices.  They provide a common framework for companies to start their supply chain performance measurement and process alignment in supply chain projects.  The board concerns SCOR applications in different industries with an initial focus on Apparel and Textiles Industry, Logistics and Transports Industry, Grocery Industry and Hi-tech Industry.

Board Structure
The board accommodates a maximum of 15 board members from various industries.  Board meetings are held regularly to share views and latest development in SCOR.  Under the auspices of the board, 4 standing workgroups known as Membership Sales and Support Group, Marketing and Communication Group, SCOR Training Group and Industry & Product Development Group are formed to provide direction and monitor activities in related areas.  Special interest groups may also be set up whenever needed to carry out development activities on project basis.  These workgroups and special interest groups meet as needed.

Strategies

  1. Build a neutral environment where supply chain professionals meet supply chain professionals through open, diversified and balanced membership, representative offices establishment, strategic alliances and members’ gathering;
  2. Create industry awareness of SCOR through information dissemination via media, publicity channels, speaking panel, annual Supply Chain World-Greater China conference;
  3. Build up industry capabilities of users, supply chain service providers and trainers through material localization, educational opportunities and certification;
  4. Encourage practical SCOR application through top management's buy-in of process modeling concept, industry pilot and implementation support;
  5. Assess industry performance in supply chain operation through benchmarking exercise; and
  6. Continue development of SCOR through SCOR and industry development tracking and launching local initiatives.
