1. Symbol Testing ServiceVerification Report
The purpose of the report is to provide recommendations to applicants for the bar code quality of the assessed symbol such that they can make necessary improvement accordingly. The report is divided into 3 parts:
- Symbol Specification: Use a bar code verifier to check the bar code parameters including color contrast, magnification, light margin, height, bar width, check digit calculation, representation and legality against the GS1 standard(s).
- Print Quality: Give comments and recommendations on the bar code printing quality according to GS1 General Specifications.
- Symbol Location: Give comments and recommendations on the bar code symbol location according to GS1 General Specifications.
Testing Options
Our service only verifies labels and finished product packaging with EAN/UPC, ITF-14 or GS1-128 bar code symbologies. Applicants should submit one of the following for verification:

* Only bar code numbers registered in the Hong Kong e-ID Registry will be accepted by GS1 Hong Kong for the symbol testing service.
Please note that even if the bar code numbers of 2 or more different items are the same, they are charged separately.

2. EDI Message Testing
This service is only available for users within EZ*TRADE community using GS1 EANCOM/EDIFACT standards for exchanging electronic documents. It is important to communicate with your trading partners with standardized information based on a common format.
Flat File Testing
- Upon joining the GS1 EDI Technical Implementation Training, the first five testings will be provided free-of-charge and HK$150.00 will be charged from the 6th testing onwards.
- HK$300.00 will be charged per testing provided that the users haven't joined GS1 EDI Technical Implementation Training.
- The testing result will be emailed to the user within 8 working hours.
