International Development Workgroups

GS1 Hong Kong actively participates and works in close collaboration with the following organizations who are involved in standardization-related activities.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
GS1 Hong Kong seeks nomination from the Innovation and Technology Commission to participate in the plenary meeting and submit the national activity report for ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC31 on automatic data capture.

The Association for Automatic Identification and Data Capture Technologies (AIM)
AIM is a world-wide trade association for ADC (automatic data capture) equipment and service providers. GS1 Hong Kong liaises with AIM Asia Pacific at regional level to ensure that AIM members are aware of the ADC standard developments and the products supplied by them support and meet the GS1 standards.

GCI GDS Implementation Team
GS1 Hong Kong is one of the active members of the Team which is a workgroup under the Global Commerce Initiative (GCI) providing global leadership in driving the successful implementation of GDS in the industry including the agreed GS1 GDS standards and business processes.


ECR Asia Council Standardization Workgroup
GS1 Hong Kong being the representative of GS1 to participate in the ECR Asia Council, also chairs the Standardization Workgroup which mainly acts as a conduit to promote and facilitate knowledge transfer of global supply chain management standards to Asia via national ECR Boards. 

GS1 Global Standard Management Process (GSMP)
GSMP is a system for the development and maintenance of GS1 standards through the formation of numerous workgroups in different professional areas. GS1 Hong Kong also have representatives to participate as voting members in various GSMP workgroups like Physical Technical Requirement Group (PTRG), Information Technical Requirement Group (ITRG), Order Business Requirement Group (order BRG) and Align Business Requirement Group (Align BRG).

United Nations, Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT)
The principle focus of UN/CEFACT is on facilitating national and international transactions, through the simplification and harmonization of processes, procedures and information flows, and so contribute to the growth of global commerce.  GS1 Hong Kong has representatives to participate in Apply Technology Group (ATG) of UN/CEFACT.

Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (AFACT)
AFACT (formerly known as Asia EDIFACT Board) established in 1990 in response to disseminate EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport) policies and activities in the Asia-Pacific region.  GS1 Hong Kong participates in XML Working Group of AFACT and was elected as vice-chairman of XML working group in 1999. The objective is to exert an GS1 influence on the EDI and XML development process.

ebXML Asia Committee
ebXML Asia Committee is a regional committee mandated to promote ebXML in Asia, to jointly deal with ebXML work through the cooperation among Asian countries and to facilitate electronic commerce in the Asian region.  GS1 Hong Kong also has representatives to participate as voting member in the ebXML Aisa Committee.
