SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference-model) is designed, developed and maintained by Supply-Chain Council. It is a management tool that captures the Council's consensus view of supply chain management (SCM) for providing process modeling for SCM, spanning from supplier's supplier to customer's customer. The SCOR has been organized into FIVE different business management processes: Plan, Source, Make, Delivery and Return for describing the business activities associated with all phases of satisfying a customer's demand. The model supports supply chain of various complexities and across multiple industries.
The Supply-Chain Council designs SCOR to focus on 3 process levels and does not attempt to prescribe how a particular organization should conduct its business or tailor its systems/information flow. Every organization that implements supply chain improvements using the SCOR will need to extend the model, at least to Level 4, using organization-specific process, systems and practice. The model describes process, not functions. In other words, SCOR focuses on the activity involved, not the person or organizational element that performs the activity.
By describing supply chains using these process building blocks, the SCOR can be used to describe supply chains that are very complex or very simple using a common set of definitions. Companies using the SCOR can successfully describe and provides a basis for supply chain improvement for global projects as well as site-specific projects. While much of the underlying content of the SCOR has been used by practitioners for many years, the SCOR offers an unique framework that links business process, metrics, best practices and technology features into an unified structure to support communication among supply chain partners and to improve the effectiveness of supply chain management and related supply chain improvement activities.
In Hong Kong, SCOR training is conducted by certified SCOR instructors from GS1 Hong Kong who are among the 30 authorized trainers worldwide.
