HKSAR ICT Awards 2017 - Best Smart Hong Kong Award

Background

The Hong Kong ICT Awards aims to recognise and promote outstanding ICT inventions and applications, thereby encouraging innovation and excellence among Hong Kong’s ICT talents and enterprises in their constant pursuit for creative and better solutions to meet business and social needs.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards was established in 2006 with the collaborative efforts of the industry, academia and the Government. Steered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer and organised by 8 Hong Kong ICT industry associations and professional bodies, the Awards aims at building a locally espoused and internationally acclaimed brand of ICT awards.

There are 8 categories under the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2017. There will be one Grand Award in each category, and an “Award of the Year” will be selected from the eight Grand Awards by the Grand Judging Panel.

 

Objective

The Hong Kong ICT Awards: Best Smart Hong Kong Award was established in 2015 with the following purposes :

1. Fueling the technology innovation: 
To encourage the development and adoption of advance ICT technologies and innovative use of Internet of Things technologies,  Open Data / Big Data Analytics and Digital Inclusion to uplift business operation efficiency, overall industry competitiveness, service qualities, and to create a convenient environment for smarter business better life. 

2. A platform of expertise exchange:
The award programme will serve as a sustainable platform to facilitate the community to have a dynamic and transparent exchange of creativity and expertise with renowned ICT professionals. The platform will create a pool of pioneering innovations with great potential commercial values.

Entitlements

The remarkable achievements of the Awards winners will be recognised by customers, organisations, the ICT industry practitioners and across the community. Winners will be entitled:

  • to receive trophies (Gold / Silver / Bronze) or certificates for the Hong Kong ICT Awards;
  • to display the official logo of the Hong Kong ICT Awards in their promotional materials;
  • to participate in various promotional campaigns to publicise their achievements;
  • to be supported for entering into other international awards and competitions;
  • a three-month free access to Lion Rock 72 (co-working space in InnoCentre);
  • to one-year free subscription to Cyberport’s Collaboration Centre's services including the soft-landing, business support services, etc;
  • to participate in investment matching activities of the Hong Kong Business Angel Network (HKBAN); and
  • to free participation in some large-scale local ICT events (e.g. International ICT Expo) for marketing exposure.

Award Categories

1. Internet of Things Application

This award recognises and promotes the creative use of the Internet of Things technologies spanning from sensors, Machine to Machine (M2M), cloud computing, big data, data analytics, to storage, security, mobility, business intelligence etc. to seamlessly connect things, people, process, data and addressing the real world potential and needs to create smarter business and shape smart Hong Kong. The award will also look at how these applications change the way we work, do business, shop, communicate and live.

2. Open Data / Big Data Application

This award recognises the outstanding achievements in the use of advanced analytics techniques in the process of examining a variety of data types from all different capturing channels to discover the hidden patters, the correlations, the market trends, customer preference and other useful information which lead to more effective marketing, new revenue opportunities, better customer services, improved operational efficiency and risk management.

3. Digital Inclusion Application

This award aims at promoting the use of information and communications technology among special need groups. The main objective of this stream is to raise public awareness on digital inclusion and to encourage the development of ICT applications to promote accessibility, healthy and ethical use of ICT, and helping the disadvantaged groups become capable of using or benefiting from the internet.

 

Eligibility

  • The applicant must have the intellectual property right and/or legitimate right over the ICT product/service mentioned in the application.  The applicant shall disclose disputes any place over the world over intellectual property right about the applicant’s ICT product/service, if any, for the Organiser to consider eligibility of the application.
  • The application must be submitted by locally registered entities or residents in Hong Kong.
  • A significant part of the innovation, design, research and development (R&D) of the mentioned ICT product/service must come from resources in Hong Kong. The applicant should demonstrate significant value-add by the Hong Kong resources contributing to the success of the ICT product/service in the target market.
  • With the exception of the categories/streams involving R&D and/or students, the mentioned ICT product/service should have been launched in the market and in operation.  For Best ICT Start-up Award category, the “launched and in operation” eligibility criteria shall be at least 3 months for products and services already in the market.
  • The same application is only allowed to be submitted to a maximum of ONE award stream among all the award categories (except the Best ICT Startup Award which is company based). Any application found to have entered into more than one award stream will be disqualified (except for those products, solutions, services mentioned in the application of the Best ICT Startup Award for the purpose of competing in that company-based award).
  • Winning entries of the Gold/Silver/Bronze award in previous years of the HKICT Awards can enter the Awards again, only if there is significant change or enhancement in the product/service, or for a new award category.

 

Rules & Regulations

  1. Applicants are advised to be aware of the best practice and case-based experience as promulgated by the Office of Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.
  2. Applicants are reminded that any person who, without the permission of Steering Committee of Hong Kong ICT Awards, offers an advantage to parties involved in the Awards as a reward or inducement for doing any act or showing favour in relation to the Awards commits an offence of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (Cap. 201).
  3. To avoid conflicts of interest and the perception as such, applications for the Awards from sponsors will not be accepted.
  4. In case of any dispute, the decision of the organiser will be final and binding on all parties concerned.

Assessment Procedure

During the course of evaluation, assessors may require access to relevant information in the entrant’s possession and access to the entrant’s premises. The entrant will be notified in advance if such access is required. Any information supplied by the entrant for the purpose of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2016 will be treated as confidential, and will not be released by the Organiser and related parties without the entrant’s permission.
