Application Procedure
To acquire barcodes from GS1 Hong Kong (GS1 HK), it is necessary to first register as a GS1 HK member, with typical processing times ranging from 3 to 5 working days.
Once approved, your company will receive a GS1 Company Prefix, allowing you to generate product barcodes via our BarcodePlus platform at any time. Please note that actual approval times may vary depending on application volume and additional verification procedures. To ensure a smooth process, we recommend applying early and ensuring all submitted information is complete and accurate.
Application Requirements and Documents
Any organisation holding a valid Hong Kong Business Registration Certificate is eligible to apply for GS1 HK membership and obtain a Hong Kong 489 barcode. This includes manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and online sellers. GS1 HK offers barcode solutions tailored to businesses of all sizes. You will need to prepare the following documents and complete the online application form:
- A copy of your company’s Hong Kong Business Registration Certificate
- Proof of employee count, such as employee insurance documents or MPF statements
- Payment receipt for GS1 HK membership fees
