Overview

About the Forum

As food supply chains become more globalized, the risks associated with food safety increase. This is because food items are produced and processed in widely differing environments under a variety of regulatory frameworks and food safety standards. These products may ship across national borders and may also be transported and stored inconsistently along the supply chain by the various stakeholders. With each exchange, vulnerabilities to the food safety system increase. As a result of recent crisis, governments, industry and consumers are intensifying their scrutiny of the food chain. Achieving product visibility, traceability and transparency into the end-to-end supply chain is vital to regain and rebuilt trust at all levels.

Bringing nearly 200 stakeholders including regulators, industry stakeholders and food safety experts in Asia together, the Asia Food Safety and Product Quality Forum 2014 is funded by the SME Development Fund of the Trade and Industry Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government. The forum provides a stakeholder platform to:

  • identify, examine and discuss emerging issues related to food safety
  • exchange best practices to enable a safer and efficient supply chain
  • discuss and share practical tools to improve the way food safety issues are being addressed across borders
