Tai Po Chun Hing Pioneers Carbon-Neutral Beef Balls with ESG Community Solution
Background
As environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements gain momentum, businesses face growing expectations from customers, investors and regulators to measure, manage and disclose their carbon emissions.
To mark its 60th anniversary, Tai Po Chun Hing—renowned for its signature 100% pure beef balls—sought to launch Carbon-Neutral Beef Balls in response to consumer demand for sustainable products. The initiative aimed to integrate sustainability into the company’s brand heritage and demonstrate its environmental commitment.

As a supplier to listed food companies, Tai Po Chun Hing was also receiving requests for carbon emissions data to support customers’ Scope 3 disclosures. However, the company lacked a structured approach to collecting and managing product-level carbon data. Information was fragmented across raw-material sourcing, production, packaging and logistics, making it difficult to quantify emissions accurately, identify carbon hotspots and provide credible data to customers.
To turn its vision into reality, Tai Po Chun Hing therefore needed a digital solution and recognised calculation framework to standardise carbon-data collection, calculate product-level emissions and establish a foundation for long-term sustainability management.
Solution
GS1 Hong Kong worked closely with Tai Po Chun Hing to establish a standardised data-collection framework aligned with ISO 14067. The company then used GS1 Hong Kong’s ESG Supply Chain Community Platform to calculate, monitor and manage the carbon emissions associated with its beef ball products.
Managing Carbon Emissions
The new solution transformed previously manual, paper-based processes into a real-time, digital operation.
As beef typically accounts for most emissions associated with beef ball production, accurate sourcing data was critical to the assessment. By standardising data collection across the value chain, Tai Po Chun Hing established a reliable carbon data foundation that supports emissions measurement, reporting requirements and future sustainability initiatives.

Leveraging ESG Supply Chain Community Platform, Tai Po Chun Hing quantified product-level emissions, identified major carbon hotspots across the supply chain and generated credible data to support carbon disclosure requirements.
Launching Carbon-Neutral Beef Balls
With quantified insights into its products’ carbon footprint, Tai Po Chun Hing offset the associated carbon emissions and successfully launched its Carbon-Neutral Beef Balls to commemorate its 60th anniversary.
Benefits
- Established a standardised framework for collecting and digitally managing product-level carbon data, improving carbon data collection and emissions monitoring efficiency by 70%
- Generated credible carbon footprint using internationally recognised methodologies
- Supported customers' Scope 3 disclosure requirements
- Identified carbon hotspots and opportunities for future emissions reduction
"Today’s consumers, especially younger generations, are increasingly conscious of sustainability. ESG is no longer optional. With the support of GS1 Hong Kong and its ESG Community Platform, we have built a robust framework to measure, manage and monitor product-level carbon emissions. Leveraging the credible and transparent carbon emissions data, we successfully launched our Carbon-Neutral Beef Balls, integrating sustainability into our brand heritage.”
