
Lok Yuen Presents New Image & Runs Promotion with 1QR
Background
Established in Hong Kong for over 57 years, Lok Yuen has been renowned for its “quality and value-for-money” Hong Kong-style fish ball noodles and beef brisket rice noodles. The restaurant chain opened retail stores and online shop 3 years ago, selling products such as mashed cuttlefish, pork balls, wontons and dumplings, etc. Most of its 15 products are made with fresh ingredients produced in their own factory in San Po Kong.
Eyeing the food retail market boom, Lok Yuen further expanded into marketplaces like Wellcome and HKTVmall, and obtained barcodes from GS1 Hong Kong for product listing. To change the “old noodle shops” image in the mind of the young customers, the company has been rejuvenating its brand by introducing new flavors and using technology for marketing.
Solution – 1QR
As QR code scanning prevails, Lok Yuen has been exploring QR codes for food ordering in restaurants, and will be adopting the next generation barcode – 1QR (built on QR codes with GS1 Standards) - on product packaging in the second quarter of 2025 for consumer engagement. Simply by scanning 1QR with mobile phones, consumers can access diverse product information, such as nutritional values, certifications, recipe videos, etc., and be directed to the company’s online shop for purchases, offering greater convenience and confidence.
Effective Promotion & Marketing
With 1QR, Lok Yuen is enabled to launch different promotions at different times, simply by updating the backend system. Such promotion offers incentivise new and repeat customers to shop, driving online traffic and sales.
In addition, the diner can utilise 1QR to track consumers’ scanning data like location and time, allowing the company to formulate targeted marketing strategies and promotional offers for specific regions or times.
Changing Traditional Impressions
To bring out a vibrant image, Lok Yuen’s products are designed in refreshing color tones, with highlights on its locally hand-made practice and the 2D barcode. The company plans to implement 1QR on other products, such as fish dumpling and pork balls, in the future.
This not only enhances product information transparency, increases consumer confidence, but also supports the company to prepare in advance for stricter regulatory requirements on food information or packaging, e.g. source of ingredients, or information about recyclable packaging.
