2nd IOT Data Hackathon Concludes with Resounding Success | Tech Talents Shine at Award Ceremony

 

Hong Kong, 14 April 2025 – The Award Ceremony of the 2nd IOT Data Hackathon 2025, organised by GS1 HK with co-organisers Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and supported by the Digital Policy Office, was successfully held on 13 April 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at InnoEX, marking a perfect conclusion to the three-month competition.


The ceremony was graced by Ir Tony Wong, Commissioner for Digital Policy Office, and Ir Dr the Hon Lo Wai Kwok, Legislative Councillor (Engineering), as the award presenters to celebrate the outstanding achievements of rising tech stars.

Outstanding Performances with Innovative Solutions

Under the themes of "Smart Business" and "Smart Living", this year's IOT Data Hackathon 2025 attracted a higher participation with over 90 teams comprising local university students and business professionals. After a rigorous screening process, 24 teams entered into the finals, with 9 teams ultimately winning 12 awards.


The proposal not only addressed real business challenges but also infused fresh ideas into the commercial world. 12 distinguished judges commended the entries for their seamless integration of business data applications with ESG principles, revealing brand new sustainable pathways for enterprises.

Star-Studded Mentorship & Comprehensive Training

GS1 HK offered 7 free professional workshops for participants, covering IoT technology, AI applications, data standards, cybersecurity, design thinking, data storytelling, pitching skills, and ESG strategies etc. GS1 HK also arranged 24 industry expert mentors, with Check Point Software Technologies providing one-on-one consultations to ensure solutions incorporated data and cyber security elements.

Cross-Sector Ecosystem Cultivating Talent through Practical Experience

Six leading corporations—Airport Authority Hong Kong, AS Watson Industries, CUHK Medical Centre, HKT, Maxim’s Caterers, and Swire Coca-Cola—provided real-world business challenges and data. Technology partners Alibaba Cloud, AWS, and Esri China (Hong Kong) supplied technical platforms and tools, enabling teams to develop innovative solutions by analysing the data in depth. 

This pioneering model was unanimously recognized by judges as effective in addressing corporate challenges while nurturing data talents for cross-sector ecosystem development.
