Since its inception, the Council has been focusing on three key areas including the development of the IoT Maturity Model, Hong Kong IoT Awards, Hong Kong ICT Awards – Best Smart Hong Kong Award , Hong Kong ICT Awards - Smart Mobility Award and IoT-related trends likely to emerge in the foreseeable future. Council members have also devoted efforts in carrying out IoT Maturity Model trials and promoting the Awards.

In 2014, the Council submitted its views and opinions on the D21 Strategy Paper promulgated by the HKSAR government with the aim to improve and promote Hong Kong’s information infrastructure and services. The Council’s feedback was channelled to the authorities following a briefing from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO).
