Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council

Bringing together like-minded companies under the auspices of GS1 Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council was established in July 2013.

To drive IoT development and promote IoT adoption in Hong Kong to uplift the competitiveness of local industry, while at the same time to foster an IoT ecosystem for the continuous growth of the IoT development in Hong Kong.

  1. To promote the development and adoptions of Internet of Things innovations in Hong Kong.
  2. Provide strategic direction to GS1 HK on key IoT related initiatives.
  3. Serve as industry ambassadors to jointly promote IoT adoptions & key programs.
  4. Advise the HKSAR Government the direction for IoT development.
  5. Establish linkages with Mainland and international IoT related bodies and organizations for technology exchanges.

Since its inception, the Council has been focusing on three key areas including the development of the IoT Maturity Model, Hong Kong IoT Awards, Hong Kong ICT Awards – Best Smart Hong Kong Award and IoT-related trends likely to emerge in the foreseeable future. Council members have also devoted efforts in carrying out IoT Maturity Model trials and promoting the Awards.

In 2014, the Council submitted its views and opinions on the D21 Strategy Paper promulgated by the HKSAR government with the aim to improve and promote Hong Kong’s information infrastructure and services. The Council’s feedback was channelled to the authorities following a briefing from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO). Based on the four major technology areas designated for exploitation, including cloud computing, big data analytics, Internet of Things as well as wireless and multi-platform, the Council has contributed its insights and suggestions calculated to propel Hong Kong into the next round of ICT development.

To foster knowledge exchange and collaborations among ICT industry players, the Council also provides advice on designing the theme of the annual Hong Kong Internet of Things Conference and the invitation of  professional delegates.
