Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council
Background
Established in 2013, the Hong Kong Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council brings like-minded companies under the auspices of GS1 Hong Kong together to promote IoT adoption in Hong Kong, uplift competiveness of local companies and create an IoT ecosystem in Hong Kong.
Objectives
Promote the development and adoptions of Internet of Things innovations in Hong Kong.

Provide strategic direction to GS1 HK on key IoT related initiatives.
- Serve as industry ambassadors to jointly promote IoT adoptions & key programs.
- Advise the HKSAR Government the direction for IoT development.
- Establish linkages with Mainland and international IoT related bodies and organizations for technology exchanges.
Major Achievements
Since its inception, the Council has been focusing on three key areas including the development of the IoT Maturity Model, Hong Kong IoT Awards, Hong Kong ICT Awards – Best Smart Hong Kong Award , Hong Kong ICT Awards - Smart Mobility Award and IoT-related trends likely to emerge in the foreseeable future. Council members have also devoted efforts in carrying out IoT Maturity Model trials and promoting the Awards.
The Council also actively made recommendations and responses to IoT-related developments in Hong Kong, e.g. Response on Report of Consultancy Study on Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong, Positioning on Re-industrialisation, and advocated the development of IoT in Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area in various recommendation paper submitted to the Government. To foster knowledge exchange and collaborations among ICT industry players, the Council also provides advice on the topic and theme of GS1 HK’s annual Hong Kong Internet of Things Conference, as well as the invitation of professional delegates.
